Economic renovation of a single-family house

When a family purchased this multi-storey house in Lorentzweiler, they reached out to us to give it a fresh start—before the moving boxes arrived. The project was a full-scale renovation aimed at reconfiguring the layout, increasing energy efficiency, and making better use of the available volume. With three floors plus an expansive attic, the house had great bones—but they needed a few strategic interventions (and some insulation).

We began with a full attic conversion, transforming the dusty upper level into a functional living space. To ensure proper flow and usability, we introduced a custom-designed staircase that connects the attic to the second floor—instead of the attic ladder it initially had. Alongside that, we reimagined other key areas of the house, including the creation of a personalized man cave. Designed for maximum comfort, the space now functions as a dedicated retreat, complete with custom finishes and thoughtful lighting solutions.

The renovation also included a comprehensive window replacement—out with the old single-glazed panes, in with new high-performance, energy-efficient windows that reduce heat loss and boost thermal comfort year-round. We didn’t stop at the envelope either: the entire electrical system was redesigned to correspond with the updated layout and new furniture plan, ensuring every switch, socket, and spotlight had a purpose.

This project reflects our studio’s integrated approach to residential renovation—where spatial planning, sustainability, and a dash of humor come together to turn a house into a home that’s efficient, adaptable, and just a little bit cooler than it was before.
