Renovation of a historic single-family house
Sanem
In this single-family house renovation project in Sanem, Luxembourg, our mission was clear: transform a dated structure into a warm, energy-efficient home ready to welcome a growing family. The owner, a hands-on enthusiast (read: he had his own team of builders ready to go), entrusted us with the full design scope and arrêté de bâtir (building permit) process—because as much as he loved swinging a hammer, deciphering planning regulations wasn't his cup of tea.
Our work started with multiple on-site meetings and friendly coffee-fueled brainstorms with the clients to decode their spatial needs. From room reshuffling to creating a more fluid interior layout, we reimagined the plan to accommodate the rhythm of family life—more daylight, smarter room divisions, and a future-proof configuration.

Energy efficiency was top of the agenda. We tackled it head-on by proposing the roof insulation upgrade and converting the attic into a fully habitable space. What used to be a cold storage void is now a cozy upper level—perfect for a home office, guest suite, or perhaps a teenage hideout.
To keep everything by the book, we liaised with the Commune de Sanem, ensured compliance with all local zoning and construction regulations, and submitted a complete dossier for the autorisation de construire (building permit). After a few rounds of coordination and some good ol' Luxembourgish paperwork magic, the project received the green light.

This renovation was a great collaboration between our design team, a DIY-inclined client, and his trusty construction crew. The result? A home that’s warmer, smarter, and ready for the next chapter—all wrapped in a nice envelope of insulation.
